🎩 Harry's Diary: A Treasure Trove of Southowram Memories Discovered!

My Most Esteemed Fellow Historians, 18th February, 2025,

I must put quill to paper with the utmost haste to share a most remarkable encounter that transpired on this very day. Upon receiving a most gracious invitation from one Madame Beryl Parker, I found myself embarking upon what would prove to be a most enlightening expedition.

Picture, if you will, your humble servant practically leaping with enthusiasm (in a manner most befitting a Victorian gentleman, I assure you) at the prospect of examining a collection of photographs depicting our beloved Southowram village. The focal point of these remarkable captures centered upon the area of School Lane and Jerusalem Square - a locale that has witnessed countless transformations through the passing of time.

With Madame Parker's kind permission, I employed my own photographic apparatus to preserve these historical treasures. While the complete collection shall grace our Southowram chronicles in due course, I have taken the liberty of providing a modest preview for your immediate perusal. I must confess, dear friends, that discovering such historical artifacts stirs within me the same wonderment that Ali Baba must have felt upon discovering his cave of treasures.

As your dedicated chronicler of Halifax's rich history, I implore each of you to undertake a most important mission: Seek out these precious historical records among your: - Family collections - Acquaintances' belongings - Places of business For it pains me greatly to contemplate the tragic fate of such historical treasures being carelessly discarded by those who fail to appreciate their significance. Each photograph, each document tells a story of our beloved Halifax that must be preserved for posterity. Remember, my dear friends, today's mundane snapshot shall become tomorrow's precious historical record.

Beryl also gave me this photo of a family that lived down Water Lane, so I thought I would find the location for a 'Then and Now' comparison.

and I believe this is it.

With warmest regards and historical fervor, Harry Facks

P.S. - Do keep your eyes keenly fixed upon our Southowram chronicles, where these remarkable images shall soon make their debut.
