Heptonstall is the quaintest of villages situated above Hebden Bridge above the calder valley.
This is an intriguing village in so many ways. Its historical buildings and facts would keep any historian here for an age. and the views and surrounding natural beauty of Hardcastle Crags are a pleasure to experience any time of year.
A “parochial chapelry” was founded C. 1250 to serve the townships of the upper Calder valley. It lies at the junction of the two ancient pack horse routes into Lancashire (Burnley and Colne) and was a somewhat disputed area during the English Civil War. In earlier days it was an area of some importance boasting a grammar school and cloth hall.
