In a 1905 Almanac, it shows there was Ernest Thornton's butchers shop at no. 1,  Ezra Nicholl's grocers and provisions dealer at  no.10, Mary Ann Fawcett ran the grocers and New Road Inn at no.66 and Blaithroyd Working  Mens club at no. 9 (Castlemaine House).
